    Text Edward E. (“Sonny”) Crohan of Flanders, died at his home on January 5, 2015. He was 78 years old.

    Born in Flanders on Feb. 1, 1936, he was the eldest son of Edward F. and Ida Crohan.

    He attended Hampton Bays public schools and served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1957 to 1962.

    2015_0106_crohan_edHe married Frances Marrin on Aug. 19, 1957 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Riverhead and raised a family of five children.

    Crohan was retired from New York Telephone Company, where he worked as a switchman for 30 years.

    He was a renowned horseman on the East End. He was an avid rider and horse trainer. He was well known for his bird carvings, paintings and enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating. He was a member of the Masons and Riverhead Moose Lodge. He was a past member of the Flanders Fire Department.

    He is survived by his daughters, Cynthia Tooker of Georgia, Cheryl Simons of Hampton Bays, Lori Visone of Amherst, N.Y. and Dawn Dawson of Southold, and by his son Edward Crohan Jr. of Jamesport. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Mark, Samantha, Shelley, Nicole, Tyler, Matthew, Liam and Quinn, by his great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Ryan, by his brother Donald and cousin Katherine Konkel.

    He was predeceased by his wife of more than 50 years, a granddaughter, Stephanie Tooker and a brother, David.

    The family will receive visitors at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home, 406 E. Main St., Riverhead, on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Jan. 8, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Flanders Cemetery.
